Insight into the Cipher series
My love of brain-teasing word problems, coupled with interest in historical ciphers and code breaking, has led to a new body of work called Cipher. To date, Cipher consists of original works on canvas, wood and paper, along with pieces created on found or discarded objects. The pieces range from large, complex, multiple-panel pieces to small self-contained works.

The work is comprised of thirty-three icons, which represent the twenty-six letters of the alphabet, and basic punctuation. Each piece consists of a single letter, word, saying or quotation. The text tends toward the humorous and witty, but also dabbles in cliché, and will occasionally reveal hints with regard to the original text.

Each piece has been painted or drawn by hand. To ensure a unique hand-finished appearance, stencils and screen-printing have not been utilized in this series.
